第67回ミュンヘン国際音楽コンクールのピアノ三重奏部門で、日本人団体として初の優勝を受賞した、現在最も注目を集めるピアノ三重奏団。ピアノ三重奏の王道演目だけでなく、演奏機会の少ない作品や邦人作曲家の曲目にも光を当てる活動が高い評価を得ており、ピアノ三重奏の世界を開拓し続けている。
東京藝術大学、サントリーホール室内楽アカデミーで出会い、2016年に結成。「葵/AOI」は、3人の名字の頭文字をとり、花言葉の「大望、豊かな実り」に共感して名付けた。
好評を博したサントリーホールでのコンクール優勝記念公演に続き、これまでにトッパンホール、紀尾井ホール、フィリアホール、びわ湖ホール、いずみホールなど国内の主要ホールのほか、ミュンヘン、バイロイト、バーデン=バーデン、ケルン、ハンブルク、イタリア、フランス、チェコなどヨーロッパ各地で出演。2021年1月に札幌交響楽団とベートーヴェンの三重協奏曲を、12月には名古屋フィルハーモニーとカゼッラの三重協奏曲を協演して好評を博す。紀尾井ホールでは2021～2023年度のレジデント・シリーズを務め、サントリーホールとは2021年から7年間のプロジェクトが進行している。
マイスター・ミュージックから「ハイドン27番&シューベルト2番」と「ベートーヴェン1番&メンデルスゾーン2番」の2枚のCDをリリースしており、両ディスクともレコード芸術誌で特選盤に選ばれて好評を得ている。2022年11月に独ヘンスラー社から「マルティヌー1番&ドヴォルザーク3番」を、2023年1月にナミ・レコードから「シューマン1番＆シューベルト1番」をリリース。
第28回青山音楽賞バロックザール賞、第29回新日鉄住金音楽賞フレッシュアーティスト賞（新日鉄住金音楽賞は2019年4月より日本製鉄音楽賞に改称）、第22回ホテルオークラ音楽賞を受賞、第34回ミュージック・ペンクラブ音楽賞を受賞。
これまでに日本で伊藤恵、中木健二、花田和加子、原田幸一郎、堀正文、松原勝也、山崎伸子に学び、ミュンヘンでフォーレ四重奏団のD. モメルツに師事。ヨーロッパと日本で公演活動を続けている。

Only five times in history, the ARD international music competition has awarded the first prize for piano trios. Aoi Trio won this prestigious first prize in 2018, which made a breathtaking start to their international career.
Aoi Trio was founded in 2016 by Kyoko Ogawa (violin), Yu Ito (cello), and Kosuke Akimoto (piano), all of whom graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts and studied at the renowned Chamber Music Academy of Suntory Hall (Tokyo) for 2 years.
In the season 2019-2020 Aoi Trio toured in Japan having 21 concerts in total performing at such prestigious venues as Suntory Hall, Kioi Hall, Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall and Toppan Hall. In Europe, they appeared in several cities and festivals including Munich (Herkulessaal), Bayreuth, Baden-Baden, Cologne and Musiktage Hitzacker.
Highlights of the season 2020-21 include recitals at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Musikverein Regensburg and numerous venues in Japan (the Phoenix Hall, Biwako Hall and others) as well as a collaboration with Sapporo Symphony Orchestra for Beethoven’s triple concerto. And they are scheduled to perform Casella’s triple concerto with Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra in December 2021.
Aoi Trio has released two recordings “Haydn No. 27 and Schubert No. 2” and “Beethoven No. 1 and Mendelssohn No. 2” which have attracted great critical acclaim. They received the Aoyama Music Award, Nippon Steel Music Award and Hotel Okura Music Award.
“Aoi” refers to the initial letters of their individual family names and is also the name of a flower in Japanese language, which is commonly known as ‘hollylock” in Europe and symbolises “aspiration” or “fruitfulness.”
Since April 2019, they are based in Germany and currently study with Dirk Mommertz (Fauré Quartett) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
